Jason Walker

Jason Walker is a partner of Forte Family Lawyers and has nearly 30 years of experience helping clients navigate family and relationship breakdown. He is accredited by the Law Institute of Victoria as a specialist in Family Law (2005).

Jason has particular expertise in complex parenting matters and complex financial litigation.  He is recognised for his strategic clarity, commercial acumen and measured advocacy. His approach is pragmatic and solutions-focused.

Jason’s practice includes international family law, often involving jurisdictional and forum disputes and the relocation of children. He is a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers (since 2015), a worldwide association of practising lawyers who are recognised by their peers as the most experienced and skilled family law specialists in their respective countries. Jason has served two terms as a member of the Global IAFL Executive Committee and has also served as a member of the IAFL Asia Pacific Chapter Executive Committee.

Jason’s practice also extends to advising schools and Australia’s major banking institutions on family law issues, including responding to subpoenas and interpretation of court orders.

Jason is actively involved in leadership within the Family Law profession and is committed to the ongoing development of best practice, ethics and professional standards. He is a regular contributor to professional education and values mentoring the next generation of family lawyers.

In December 2018, Jason was elected as the Victorian solicitor representative to the Executive of the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia, the peak national body for Lawyers, with over 3,500 members. In December 2024, he was elected Chair of the Family Law Section. Jason is the former co-editor of Australian Family Lawyer and regularly presents on family law issues, in Australia and overseas.

Jason has also served as the Chair of the Family Law Section of the Law Institute of Victoria (LIV). He was a founding member of the LIV Children’s Law Specialisation Advisory Committee, responsible for assessing and examining candidates for specialisation in Children’s Law and is a past Chair of the Children & Youth Issues sub-committee and Education Committee.
